A few members of the Phantoms were also members of the Group "Wild East". The short lived group won the Ulster County and then the New York/New England State level competition of the nationally sponsored Pepsi / Tru Value Hardware "Country Music Showdown." "Wild East" went on to be one of the finalists performing on a nationally broadcast radio show, opening for country music star Cathy Mattea in Wheeling, West Virginia.
